If you need to take regular medication your doctor may give you a REPEAT prescription without the need for you to be seen every time in surgery.
A repeat prescription is an item of medication that has been approved by a doctor for issue at intervals and can be signed by any Doctor in the Practice.
The doctor will not routinely issue your prescription early. We will usually issue your prescription up to one week before it is due (in the case of monthly supply). We will not issue medication prior to this, unless there are exceptional circumstances, when a doctor will decide if early issue of your medication is appropriate and safe
ONLY ORDER WHAT YOU NEED
The NHS in Humber and North Yorkshire spends £332 million a year on medicines – and £26 million is wasted when unwanted repeat prescriptions are returned. These medicines can’t be reused or recycled; they must be destroyed.
How you can help:
Check before you order – only request what you’re running out of
Open your prescription bag – return anything you don’t need before you leave the pharmacy
Talk to your pharmacy team – let them know if you’ve stopped taking a medicine
Return safely – always bring unused or expired medicines back to the pharmacy, not the bin or sink.
By making these simple changes, you’ll help your NHS, protect the environment, and stay safe.
Check before you order. Stay Well. Stay Safe. Stay Green.
Ordering Repeat Prescriptions
Online:
If you are a patient, all you have to do is register for online prescriptions. You will need access information which is obtained from the practice. The username and password will be unique to you.
You can then request your prescriptions online. by logging onto SystmOnline. Manage your prescriptions quickly and easily wherever you are, 24 hours a day.

ACUTE PRESCRIPTIONS
An acute prescription is an item of medication that is not normally repeated beyond the initial prescribed course. Acute prescriptions need to be issued by an authorised clinician. Certain Items e.g. Calpol, head lice treatments and cold sore creams can be purchased over the counter from the pharmacy. You may be asked to attend for medication review for other treatments to ensure they are still appropriate for your condition.
Antibiotics are rarely prescribed over the telephone and are not routinely prescribed for the common cold as this is a viral infection.
This may take longer than 2 working days to process. Please order these items in good time.
With the NHS App, you can check your symptoms and get immediate advice. You can also book appointments at your GP practice, order repeat prescriptions, view your medical record and more. To use the NHS App you must be aged 13 or over and registered with a GP surgery in England.
If you live further than a mile from a Pharmacy, you can use the Dispensary within both surgeries. Dispensing patients have the option to order their prescription via Managed repeats - Each time you collect your items you can order what items you will require next month and leave the order form with us – no need to visit or telephone us. We will give you a date to come back which is convenient for you. The Dispensary has a facility to put medication into Dosette boxes; they also have a delivery service for housebound patients who are unable to collect their prescription. To enquire about these services please speak to the dispensary.
